Każdy pisarz przypomina w pewnym sensie magika. Nie ukrywam, że wyjmowanie z cylindra niestworzonych historii zamiast tradycyjnego królika zawsze sprawiało mi przyjemność, chociaż pewnie niektórym wydawało się dziwne.

W stowarzyszeniu WritersOnline nikt nie dziwi się „wymyślaczom”, bo wszyscy tacy jesteśmy. Wystarczy wolne popołudnie i klawiatura z literami, które lubią układać się w opowieści. Ja mam właśnie taką klawiaturę i boję się ją wymienić na nową, chociaż litera „j” stała się jakiś czas temu niezwykle chybotliwa. Nie mogę uwierzyć, że jeszcze niedawno, zanim dołączyłem do WritersOnline, byłem gotowy pozbyć się tej klawiatury w nadziei, że razem z nią wyrzucę wszystkie te opowieści cisnące się bez przerwy i możliwości sprzeciwu na myśl.

Pewnie znasz to uczucie: po prostu siadasz, zaczynasz pisać i nie możesz przestać. Na spacerze z psem też trudno się wyłączyć – nigdy niewydarzone wydarzenia cisną się do wyobraźni i po powrocie do domu masz już gotową nowelę albo opowiadanie. Nic przyjemniejszego, ale trudno pogodzić życie we własnym świecie z nudną, przytłaczającą pracą i właśnie dlatego uważałem dar pisania za przekleństwo.

Poza tym przed znalezieniem WritersOnline czułem się nieco wyobcowany – koledzy stojący mocno na ziemi, a raczej na podłodze zagranicznych film, z mieszkaniami, samochodami, kredytami i innymi poważnymi zobowiązaniami, a ja ciągle w świecie wyobraźni, z moją magiczną klawiaturą. Trudno się przebić, wydać swój tomik wierszy albo książkę, ale jedyną rzeczą, która nigdy nie sprawiała mi najmniejszych trudności było i jest pisanie.

Nie pamiętam dokładnie, jak to się zaczęło. Chyba po prostu wpisałem któregoś wieczora w wyszukiwarce hasło „WritersOnline” (do tej pory nie wiem, dlaczego właśnie to) i ku mojemu zdziwieniu znalazłem tam propozycję wymarzonej pracy.

Na początku chodziłem trochę oszołomiony, bo wydawało mi się niemożliwe, że poważna firma może płacić za historyjki masowo i z prawdziwą przyjemnością wysysane przeze mnie z palca. Wreszcie dotarło do mnie, że praca wcale nie musi oznaczać zmuszania się do tego, czego tak naprawdę nie lubię. Cenię to sobie w rzadkich momentach, kiedy schodzę na ziemię, a na co dzień doceniam pracę, która pozwala mi robić to, co naprawdę lubię.

The day when I found out about WritersOnline, I was getting ready to leave the house, with a newspaper in my hand to have something to read on the bus. It was a rainy day like any other, filled with routine and my usual little tasks. Little did I know that something was about to change.

It was the kind of ad that does not say much and leaves you wondering what might be hidden further along the road. And so it was that by the time I got to work that day, I’ve already decided to give WritersOnline a chance. It was instinctive, I wanted to know if there was more to it than it said in the ad.
